22 Reasons You Get Fatter, Not Fitter, Over The Holidays… And What You Should Do About It

If you asked the average casual exerciser, someone who doesn’t lift for a living, or have unlimited free time, but has a tough job or kids or a busy schedule, the vast majority would tell you the holidays are like a mine field of temptations, distractions and obstacles blocking their path to a lean and healthy body.

Why Losing Weight Is Like Groundhog Day

In a small town in Pennsylvania, there is a long-standing tradition with the Famous groundhog, Punxsatawney Phil. On February 2nd, the furry little critter crawls out of his den and if he sees his shadow, it means there will be 6 more weeks of winter.  Usually he does, though I always hope otherwise – I would prefer an early spring! Anyway, seeing this amusing American holiday on the news again got me thinking… for most people, weight loss is a lot like groundhog day…

How Being a Dad Can Transform Your Body And Health (Happy Father’s Day!)

Did you know there was a study conducted some years ago which revealed that married men are healthier and live longer, BUT… Men are also more likely to get fatter after they get married. (some of the ladies in the audience are grumbling, “Yeah no KIDDING!”)

Announcing Burn the Fat Blog 2.0

It’s hard to believe that Burn the Fat has been online for 9 years. Yep – our 10th anniversary “bash” is coming up next year – 2012. Even harder to believe – I’ve been blogging for almost 7 years now. The downside of that is, until today, the Burn the Fat Blog was looking “so 2004.” forget cat and dog years, in Internet years that’s something like the amount time that’s passed since Australopithecus became extinct. Translation: this blog was long overdue for an update, an upgrade and a face lift…and here it is: Burn the Fat Blog 2.0!

The 8 Worst Diet And Fitness Fads of 2010

Last week I surveyed all my followers on twitter and all my friends and fans on Facebook to find out what they thought were the worst diet and fitness fads of 2010. Hundreds of people responded and many votes were given for a small handful of real stinkers. In today’s Burn the Fat Blog post, you’ll see the complete list, as determined by survey response, along with a few choice comments of my own. Most of these are good for a real laugh, others are taken seriously by many and will surely draw some ire from “true believers.” Either way, this should be fun…

My Holiday Fitnesss Challenge To You For 2010

Every year as Thanksgiving gets closer, you’ve probably seen the depressing reports: “Most people gain between 5 and 10 pounds of body fat in the six weeks between Thanksgiving and Christmas.” I’m not sure if this worries you or not, but a lot of people are terrified about getting fatter in the next two months. They anticipate the workouts falling by the wayside and the holiday food calling out to them irresistibly, defeating even the strongest willpower. There’s good news and bad news about this.

Worst Infomercials of All Time

Earlier today, Time Magazine online published their list of the “25 Worst (We Mean Best) Infomercials.” At first, I was surprised that only 2 out of 25 infomercials were for exercise / fitness gizmos… until I saw the other 23, which included the “comfort wipe” and the “potty putter.” See which fitness infomercials TIME voted among the worst ever… (among the non-fitness infomercials, I vote for the better marriage blanket… but Aspray and UroClub are a really close second and third)

How to Get a Body Like a Movie Star This Summer

Summer is here in the New Jersey / New York City Metro area. It has been a hot one so far, since Memorial Day through this first week of June – beautiful sunny skies and temps from 80 to the low 90’s. That of course, means a lot less clothes… People are baring their bodies everywhere here, at least most people. Some folks didn’t quite achieve that “summer bod” in time for summer… but it’s never too late. In fact, our Burn the Fat summer body transformation challenge just kicked off last week with thousands of people vying for the Burn the Fat champion title, and a movie star / fitness model body before the end of the summer…
