My  Mission

tom2My mission is to help millions of people get leaner, stronger, fitter and healthier.

Through my books, blogs, websites, audio programs, online communities and fitness challenge contests, my goal is to inform and inspire you to  reach all your health, fitness and body transformation goals and become the best you can be at every age.

I support, promote and teach an all-natural (drug-free) approach to muscle training and an all-natural, whole food approach to nutrition,  combined with goal-setting, positive mental attitude and a good dose of motivation.

My Bio

I’m a  lifetime natural bodybuilder and fitness writer. Greatist.com named me among the 100 most influential people in fitness  three years in a row and Oprah Magazine said, “Venuto is honest about what it really takes to lose weight.”

I’m the author of two books about fat loss and body transformation: Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle: Secrets of the Leanest People in the world  and  The Body Fat Solution: 5 Principles for Burning Fat, Building Lean Muscle, Ending Emotional Eating and Maintaining Your Perfect Weight.

I’ve been in the fitness industry a long time – since 1989 –  and since then, I’ve worn almost every hat in the business – personal trainer, health club manager, nutrition consultant, fitness coach, competitive bodybuilder, online publisher and freelance writer.

My articles have appeared in Muscle and Fitness, Men’s Fitness, Men’s Exercise, Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness and IRONMAN magazine, plus websites such as Bodybuilding.com, AskMen.com and too many others to list.  More than 230,000 subscribers receive my weekly e-mail newsletters.

I post here on Burn the Fat Blog about once a week (although I’ve been known to miss a week or three), and I occasionally feature guest blogs from my fitness friends and colleagues who are like-minded. I write about fat loss, bodybuilding, body transformation, nutrition, cardio, weight training and motivation/psychology/goal setting.

I’m also the founder and CEO of the fat loss support community for motivation, inspiration and transformation, the Burn The Fat Inner Circle. The inner circle is an amazing fitness social network and support community and is currently my biggest passion and where I spend most of my time.

I’m a big supporter of natural bodybuilding and believe in developing your physique without steroids, hormones or other drugs.

I do not sell supplements and have no affiliations with the nutritional supplement industry, so if you’re sick of advertisements for miracle drinks or magic pills,  and you want to learn how to transform your body naturally with real food and intelligent training, then you’ve come to the right place.

My Story

I wasn’t always in shape. When I was a freshman in high school, I was weak, flabby and embarrassed to take my shirt off for swimming class (didn’t want anyone seeing my “man boobs.”) In college, I earned the nickname “Big Boy” after adding 20 pounds of belly fat from my beer, pizza and cheese fries diet. I hit rock bottom when I realized I was at the university studying for a career in fitness, but I wasn’t walking the talk. I was fat and I knew it.

Frustrated and mad (at myself), I began to research the unique methods of the bodybuilders and fitness models I’d admired for years (ever since the first time I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger on the big screen in Conan the Barbarian, I was in awe of the bodybuilder’s physique). And if you want to get lean and muscular, who better to learn from than bodybuilders – the leanest, most muscular athletes in the world?

I studied everything I could get my hands on about exercise physiology and nutrition science. I picked the brains of every bodybuilder I met, and I was mentored by natural bodybuilders who encouraged me to compete… and do it the all-natural way – without steroids or other banned substances.

In my first local competition, I took 2nd place in my weight division. A month later I won the (lightweight) division at the Natural New Jersey Championships. Less than a year later, I won the overall title at the Mr. Pennsylvania championships, even leaner and more muscular as a middleweight. I captured my third state title at the New York Championships in the best shape of my life. I continued on for a total of 28 bodybuilding competitions, drug free for life.

I graduated from college –in top shape – with a degree in exercise science and trainer certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Everyone started asking me how I did it, so I established my mission to coach and inspire others to transform their bodies, using everything I’d learned from all my years of trial, error, scientific research and real world experience with the bodybuilding and physique athlete method of body transformation.

As a certified personal trainer I worked with hundreds of people in the gym, then went on to coach thousands of people through my online programs and ultimately, hundreds of thousands in 154 countries through my book, Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle.

When I’m not in the gym training or helping people online, my hobbies include reading (I own over 3,000 books), and “opting outside” – day hiking, peak-bagging, road-tripping and traveling – especially the Western and South-Western United States.
